New England is brutal on the outside of a house. Can you fix rotted trim without residing the whole house?
Yes — that's most of this work. Targeted board replacement, proper sealing at the seams, and a paint match, not a full re-side you don't need for a section of rotted fascia.
Do you paint the repair?
We can prime and paint the new wood so it blends with the existing siding and trim — tell us in the quote and we'll price the paint match in.
Is a photo enough to quote?
Usually enough to start, especially for something like a section of rotted trim or a cracked clapboard. We confirm the actual scope on site before work begins, since rot often runs a little further back than it looks from the ground.
What causes exterior trim and fascia to rot in the first place?
Almost always water getting behind the wood and having nowhere to dry out. A small gap in caulking or a nail hole lets moisture in, freeze-thaw cycles work it open further each winter, and by the time paint is visibly peeling or a board flexes underfoot, the damage has usually been building for a season or two out of sight.
Does old paint on my house need special handling?
If your home was built before 1978, the existing exterior paint may contain lead, and disturbing it during trim or siding repair falls under EPA lead-safe work practice rules. How long does an exterior repair take?
A section of trim or a few clapboards is often a one-day job, weather permitting — we don't paint in the rain and don't want to seal over damp wood. Larger sections of fascia or soffit, or repairs that turn up more rot once we open things up, take longer. We'll give you a realistic estimate with the quote.
