We painted the whole first floor of a place in Jamaica Plain last year. The owner told us he expected a flat, boring rental-style job. It came out crisp, no drips, no paint anywhere near the trim. He was surprised, and that tells you something. People's expectations for painters around here are low because so many rush the prep. A lot of that prep gap shows up in older housing stock: pre-1978 homes, which cover a big share of Melrose, Somerville, Cambridge, and the older Boston neighborhoods, can have lead paint under later coats, and any sanding or scraping on those surfaces falls under EPA lead-safe rules — something worth knowing before anyone takes a sander to a hundred-year-old windowsill.
We do interior painting across Boston and the North Shore, and prep is where we spend our time. Taping right, sanding the rough spots, filling the dings before a drop of paint goes on. That is the part that decides whether the job looks good or looks cheap. Every job is quoted after we see the space or your photos — room size, wall condition, and how much prep it needs all change the number, so we'd rather give you a real figure than a made-up starting price. Wall Painting
Whole rooms, single walls, a full floor of a house. We tape it, prep it, and roll it so you get clean lines and an even coat with no roller marks or patchy spots that need a third go-round. Old plaster walls, common in Melrose and Somerville triple-deckers built well before drywall was the norm, take paint differently than new drywall — they soak it up unevenly and need different priming — and we adjust for that instead of treating every wall the same. Interior Surface Painting
Trim, baseboards, crown molding, window casings, ceilings. The detail work that makes a room look finished instead of half-done. It is slow, careful painting and it is easy to mess up if you rush it — one shaky line where trim meets wall and your eye goes straight to it every time you walk past. This is our interior surface painting service.
Door Painting
People forget about their doors until a fresh wall makes the beat-up door next to it look worse. We paint interior doors and front doors, sand and prime first so the finish is smooth and does not peel in a season. On older doors and frames with many stacked layers of old paint, that sanding matters even more — enough buildup and a door stops closing right, never mind looking right. More on door painting.
Drywall Painting
After a drywall patch or a new wall goes in, it needs to be primed and painted so the repair disappears into the rest of the wall. Skip the prime coat and the patch drinks up paint differently than the surrounding wall, leaving a dull ghost of a rectangle that gives away exactly where the damage was.
