Hardwood moves. It swells in a humid Boston summer and shrinks in dry winter heat, and a floor installed without room to do that ends up cupped, gapped, or buckled. The fix is boring and essential: acclimate the wood in your home first, leave the correct expansion gap at the walls, and fasten or float it to suit the subfloor. On the old plank subfloors common here, that also means checking flatness and squeaks before a single board goes down.

We install new solid and engineered floors, and we replace damaged boards in an existing floor so the repair blends instead of standing out.

Hardwood Floor Installation FAQs

Solid vs. engineered — which for my home?

Engineered handles humidity swings and basements better; we'll advise per room based on your home's conditions.

Do I need to acclimate the wood?

Yes — we build it into the schedule so the wood settles to your home's humidity before installation.

Can you match my existing floor for a repair?

We source the closest match and blend the boards in so the repair doesn't stand out.
